Description
Botanical Name: Cymbopogon citratus
Common Names: Lemongrass, Lemon Grass, Fever Grass
Primary Spiritual Uses: Cleansing, clearing, purification, road opening, renewal and creating favorable conditions
Lemongrass (cymbopogon citratus) is a perennial grass species that is native to southern India and Sri Lanka. It has a bright, clean and slightly Earthy lemon scent. When used for spiritual work, it is a versatile herb that has been traditionally associated with cleansing away stagnant conditions and making room for something better to enter. Its sharp citrus fragrance and sweeping, grasslike growth give it a natural place in spiritual work concerned with purification, movement and renewal. It s also generally one of the staple ingredients found in recipes for Van Van Oil and Chinese Floor Wash.
Our dried, cut and sifted lemongrass may be incorporated into spiritual baths, floor washes, incense blends, cleansing waters, sachets, ritual bowls and other forms of folk-magic work with which it aligns.
Spiritual Uses of Lemongrass
Lemongrass is often chosen when the goal is not only to cleanse, but also to encourage forward movement after the cleansing is complete.
Some herbs are used primarily to drive something away, others are used to attract what is desired. But lemongrass sits comfortably between both as it can clear away what has become stagnant while simultaneously drawing in lighter energy and luck.
In spiritual work, lemongrass would be great to include in work that is aimed at:
- Spiritual cleansing and purification
- Clearing stagnant or oppressive conditions
- Refreshing the energy of your home or business
- Road-opening and opportunity work
- Removing obstacles from one’s path
- Encouraging movement after a period of delay
- Washing away the residue of conflict or confusion
- Preparing a space before spiritual work
- Workings for renewal and fresh beginnings
- Creating a cleaner spiritual foundation for attraction work
Ways to Use Lemongrass
Spiritual Baths
Bring a pot of water to a slow boil and steep a small amount of lemongrass in it for roughly 20 to 30 minutes, allow the infusion to cool and strain the plant material thoroughly. Add the strained liquid to your bathwater.
Speak prayers of cleansing over the preparation according to your tradition and clearly name the conditions you need cleansed of.
Floor Washes
You can add a strained lemongrass infusion to a bucket of water and use it as a floor wash. Mopping from the back of your house to the front in order to send out all the spiritual gunk the same way it came in. Not only can you use this to mop your floors but you can also use it to wipe down the doors in your home, windowsills, and even certain spiritual tools or your altar.
Always test any herbal preparation on a small, inconspicuous area before applying it to floors, woodwork, fabrics or finished surfaces.
Incense and Smoke Cleansing Blends
Dried lemongrass may be included in loose incense blends intended for cleansing, purification or road opening. It blends well with various resins, aromatic woods and other dried herbs.
If you plan to burn some loose lemongrass, it is recommended that you use only a small amount at a time in a fire-safe container.
